Yesterday I had a slight misunderstanding with a tree while taking a sharp corner at speed in my 68 Chamois coupe and consequently my car has been slightly damaged down the drivers side, I need to get the front wing beaten out, new chrome strips for the side flashes also the front wing needs re-spraying but its thirty years old and the paint is faded, so how would I go about finding the right colour for it, and where would I get the chrome from.

I think Franka has a list of colours on his page.

Sorry to hear about the accident though.

Sorry to hear about your car.

For your paint take an easily removable part of the car - I used the door pocket - to a decent paint supplier and they should be able to match to it. They may have a listing of the paint codes so it's worth taking that along so they've an idea where to start.

As for the chrome I'd guess it's pretty hard to get - try autojumbles and, of course, National.

Hi David,

Sorry to hear about the prang, hope that its not too serious, repairing coupe body's can cost!

As to the colour look at the chassis plate (just open the boot lid and its there under the bonnet stay). There is a three digit colour code. (Mine is 129). Go to Franka's font of all information to do with imps site and you should find a page on colour & trim codes. (Mine is 129= Golden sand metallic).
Anne Donnelly's comment about taking a piece (preferably interior as that won't fade too much) to the paint shop is also a good idea as there often was several shades of a particular colour...

When Roger Swift (Hi Roger), came to the York show earlier this year he showed me a swatch patch of the colour shades and there was no less than a dozen different shades of my colour alone.

All of this depends upon the car being its original colour of course!

Finally I would recommend you hunting out a good paint shop that understands that this is your pride and joy... There are a lot of cowboys about.

Best of luck.
     Paul.

Hi,
The colours on the swatches I have are intended for matching faded paint, and show the usual ways the original paint tends to go. There is usually only one original colour. Most good paint suppliers should be able to mix this from the paint code. Incidentally, on early cars this is sometimes on the left hand side of the engine compartment (the radiator side).

Cheers Roger
