Imp Aerodynamics.
By the way can somebody explain what a BIB Type spoiler is. My english vocabulary is reasonable but I donot have a clue what shape I should think of for a 'Bib' type spoiler.
Can somebody explain.

Imp aerodynamcs: don't bother. They are shaped like a brick, and consequently will only ever have the aerodynamics of a brick. Better spend your time and money on something else.

Richard,
I would say that a lot depends on the purpose of the brick. But still think that you shouldnot underestimate the Imps aerodynamics.
Ah.. well better to trade in some aerodynamics for character and identity than to design a wind tunnel designed perfect shape (dont' exist), 13 to the dozen, not really much improved MPG modern mobile thingy on 4 wheels.
Even with todays windtunnel technics it is hard to beat the Lotus Elite (1958) design.
Or am I teasing fate here by addressing (amongst other) somebody with 'aero' in its e-mail address ;-) Any suggestions on how to improve Imp aerodynamics while not spending to much money (I donot care about the time).
Regards
Pieter

Tom,

Good suggestion but easier said than done. Think that Davrians are thin on the ground in Holland. To my recollection I have never actually seen one in the flesh/fibre so to say. Will keep my eyes open for one.

I know a guy who races a Davrian with a 998cc engine.
He was once clocked going down the main straight at Silverstone doing 155MPH.
Impresive!!

hehehe... a 'bib' in English is the thing you hang under a baby's chin to catch all the food that would otherwise go all over the floor <vbg> Hence, a bib spoiler goes under the car's 'chin' - at the bottom across the front, to stop the air getting under the car and thus increase downforce and presumably reduce drag.... but I'm getting onto thin ice here in the aerodynamic area..
Cheers,
Mike

Hi folks
The bib spoiler (a.k.a. airdam) can be expected to lower air pressure under the car, so might help with downforce for handling, and also could improve airflow through the standard radiator, as it is blown forward to discharge under the car. (Fiat 600 etc also did this, as part of the 'heater' setup.)
A simple water-manometer would measure any difference the airdam makes in this regard.
CT475 got its 67th WoF (=MoT to UK types) yesterday. No high-speed antics at present - what is the best source of new drive-doughnuts? This bog standard Mk 1 had good acceleration left at 75 mph but I'm chicken... It also gets noticeably quieter as revs get past the resonance of the engine-cover.
There's another topic - has anyone a totally inconspicuous mod. to break up this resonance, which is due to the location of the 2 hinges?
Cheers

There is to my knowledge only one Davrian in Holland a dark blue one, mark IV ? with modified front (read not damaged).
It's left hand drive too and some years ago raced on Zandvoort

Non-believer? Too right. Ever wondered why you can be driving along at 70mph and still see a puddle of water sitting quite happily on the bonnet?
And that's just the flow over the front of the car...

Richard,
Which sounds just about right, it means that you have a 'standing' layer of air over the bonnet and the resistance between air and air is less than turbulant air over the bonnet ? I seem to recollect from somewhere during my education but perhaps this is only true for ships going through the water.
Have a look at the aerodynamics picture on the Imp site.

Funny you should suggest I look at the aerodynamics picture on the Imp site. Myself and another colleague (also an aerodynamicist) took the picture.

Excellent. An electronic death threat. All I need now is an electronic stalker.
By the way, I do not advise an attempt at carrying out the death threat. My colleague, who shares my opinions on the aerodynamics matter, is a member of a notorious Glasgow razor gang and therefore a complete nutter, and I am the hardest man in the Universe. So you have been warned.

Ah, but I come from Dublin. And I'm a distinguished member of the North Side Bottle Orchestra.

I had noticed that many times !
I assume the reverse pressure created by the windscreen = the air pressure from the forward motion so it cancells out any air movement ... nick ..
