Hi Impers,

Is it harmfull to use a 930cc headgasket on a 875cc engine ?
Will it be prone to headgasket failure or will the top rim of the bore get damaged ?
Any experiences out there ?

Bert,
I've used a 930 head gasket with little problems.

So you wouldn't advise their use ? I want NO problems !!

I wouldn't use anything other than a rheinz gasket ..
they are getting scarce though i think ...

I'm using a Reinz 930cc gasket Well I've noticed that with several engines sometimes you can see a narrow rim of aluminum coming off the top of the bore. I don't know if that can deteriorate or not, giving a leaking headgasket later on or so.
Has anyone seen the same thing ?

yes on a couple of blocks , it is the join between the cast-in liner and the alluminium block , it can cause a problem , but it is worth the risk of trying it first , if the gasket blows then you know the block is likely to be no good for anything except a 998cc conversion !

Bert,
This lifting aluminium is quite common particularly if the block face has been skimmed. Officially the block is scrap once this happen, but I have reused the block with complete success. Albeit with the 930 gasket!

Hi Paul,

Don't think that there are any left, you may find the odd one if you are lucky (try e-mailing Bob Allen). I know that Malcolm Anderson has some copper asbestos 998 gaskets and I think that the price was around 40ukp.

I'm having a rethink and am probably going to look for a wills ringed head, (But I've heard that they are getting scarce now.

Best of luck,
Paul.
