Pardon me for forwarding an advert to this list, but I work from the idea that it won't harm to be aware of possibilities.
Alumiweld is intended for the on site repair of Aluminum products.
Also used to repair Mag-alloys, Zinc based metal, Pot metal and galvanized steel with a simple welding-like application. Apparently it requires no special skill.
Manufacturer and supplier: Millennium Distributors. They have an independent test from Bell Laboratories and U.S. government spec approval for their product. Alumiweld is strong.
Here's a partial list of things which can be repaired by this product:
Boats, Props, Storm doors, Ladders, Gutters, Pontoons, Irrigation pipes, Tools, Refrigerators, Lawn mowers, antiques, R.V. parts and body, outboard motors, Transmissions, Cylinder heads, oil pans, Radiators, Air conditioning lines, Blocks, Intake Manifolds, Motor Cycle cases, Fences, siding. . .
Alumiweld is not compatible with pure Magnesium! File pieces to be repaired & torch fillings. If they flare or burn, do not repair! Repairing pure Magnesium with an open flame torch may result in a fire.
One time special promotional sample prices as follows Alumiweld 1/8 X 18" or 1/8" X 9"
1 LB $45.00 USD (One time special sample price) (approximately 19 18" rods per 1 pound)
Millennium Distributors; Kenrick E. Cleveland

It is available in this country , ( UK ) where it is called "Lumiweld" it is usually sold at all the classic shows on a trade stand .. i have some in stock and have used it with varying degrees of success . It certainly does 'weld' but you need a lot of heat if it is a large casting , but then you mustn't overheat the local area!
I can probably dig out the address if anyone is interested , it is quite expensive ...
