Heater

Hi All,

Thanks to the efforts of Tim Morgan, I now have a heater for my Stiletto again, as you may be aware I have put my old heater matrix in the front box as a cooling assistor, my new brainwave is to fit the new heater matrix as per usual and fit two 'Y' junctions onto the 5/8 pipes running up and down the car. Obviously the water won't want to run this way so there are two options:
  1. put a shut off valve just past the heater 'Y' valve and before the assistant rad. This will obviously be cheap and allow me to use the original heater control but when I put the heater on I will get less cooling - probably.
  2. put a water pump in between the 'Y' valve and the heater matrix, when this pump is not going there will be no heating, when it is going, water will be drawn from the circuit, this way the cooling system will be improved.
Anybody got any better ideas before I freeze to death. Does anyone know where I could buy a 12v, 5/8 dia pump from.

Dave

Hi Dave

If you have a Tee on the feed to the heater, placed at least six inches or more before the heater, with the branch going to the extra radiator, then closing the heater valve will divert all flow to the radiator and opening it will allow a good proportion to go through the heater. The other side can be a Tee or a Y - if a Tee, probably best to let that one favour the radiator flow by taking the branch as the heater return.

There might be a much better solution:

IF you can get a Hunter heater-valve in good condition, you can run the heater simply upstream of the radiator, because when a Hunter valve is 'closed' it provides a 100% bypass.

Good luck
