Hi, did you guys know that Tommi crashed out of the RAC rally because of an imp???
There was oil on the road, and he went off... damaging the rear suspension on his Mitsubishi. A couple of years ago when he was in Malaysia for a rally, we talked about imps and he said "they're nice cars" I wonder what he thinks of them now!!!

Yes, I'm getting a lot of stick at work from the rally fans. What with that and the cars the star programme on the telly last night I'm keeping a low profile today.... Anyhow was the imp that dumped the oil o.k.?

Suprisingly yes! The car (a californian) is lying in eight position overall at the moment out of twenty something that are running. They could use that car in the next 'bond' movie :-)
I'd better not drive around any of my imps untill it's safe to do so!

Hi all
Is it not the case that Tommi Makkinen crashed out of the rally because of poor marshalling and poor planning?
From what you all said I have worked out that it was an Imp that leaked the oil but two points remain.........
(i) Why did the marshals not tell the nearest radio car. That's what they are supposed to do and then the navigators could have been warned to warn the driver at the appropriate time. The stage would have been 'live' for at least about an hour before the first car, so the oil must have been spilt before that. That is plenty of time. The other thing is that there are about three cars that come through the stage before the rally cars and any one of these should have notified the stage commander.
(ii) Why were they using those concrete blocks anyway? Surely that is just plain dangerous, more so because they weren't there on the recce. The obvious solution would have been to use something more like straw bails and then have something harder behind as a last resort.
Whatever happens, the fault cannot lie with the Imp. Any car can unexpectedly drop oil. The fault must lie with the marshals and the stage commander.
That's my opinion! Anyone else?
Cheers

PS I didn't think 'The car's the star' was too bad. It wasn't very complimentary either, but it wasn't as bad as I was worried it might have been.
