I purchased a Toyota parts car from a lady that had ran it hot `til it stopped!! Couldn`t remove the spark(ing) plug wires! They were melted to the plugs!!
Amazingly, the head was NOT cracked!!!!!!!

Seriously, a rear- or under-floor engine will not give any sight, smell or sound of steam to the driver, until too late.

My first Imp ended it's life when it overheated without any warning lights coming on or any signs of trouble until a cloud of smoke came out of the exhaust when I changed gear. It had a plastic oil filler cap which had melted and run down into the engine.
