Also, at risk of starting yet another uncontrollable thread, can anyone enlighten me as to what type of clutch was fitted to what type of Imp...
Over the years I've hauled out Imp engines to be confronted with an assortment of spring and diaphragm types. I always thought the diaphragm looked simpler, more agricultural, and must therefore be 'older' Mk I clutches or something. But after my recent experience I find the diaphragm mechanism is much more sophisticated, allowing far more bite without increasing pedal pressure as is the case when you beef up the springs on the other type. Were 9-spring clutches standard ever or are any instances of them 'borrowed' from Heralds etc for the purposes of hotting up a std Imp?

Hi Mike
The Rootes manual sez 5.5" diaphragm fitted to Mk1 up to B.429....then 6.25" diaphragm ever after. All lever-type are 'conversions' due mainly to the Morrie thou 6.25" being compatible & available.
Cheers
