Subject: [imps] Stuck Bonnet Stops Refuelling!
Hi there.
I've got a little problem with my Imp. It is stranded miles from where I want it with a broken bonnet release mechanism. Consequently I can't refuel and can't get it home.
Does anybody out there have any idea what I can do to open the bonnet and fix the mechanism?
I am ICQ-able Monday-Friday.
Help!
Thanks
Chris Reynolds

If it is the cable that has broken:
unscrew the front air grille. push out the rubber grommet in the top of the box inside. put your hand/fingers up through the hole & push the lever behind there to the left (passenger side). This lever is part of thee catch, so it should release the bonnet.
good luck!

Hi,
Another thought, if it is the catch that is stuck......
If you knock the pins out of the bonnet hinges (carefully- don't damage the splines), you can usually wiggle it free!!

Broken inner cable ? they usuall break at the handle end grip hard on the outer cable with a pair and pull -- the outer cable stetches pulling the inner with it -- it works on other Rootes cars never tried on an Imp.

Hi Chris
Mark's remedy is the official one.
Another would be to disconnect the feed-pipe at the fuel pump and s-l-o-w-l-y feed fuel back through the pipe to the tank. (A plastic squeeze-bottle would do it.) A bit painful, but easier than a bonnetectomy on the roadside in winter!
