Tim,
Doesn't Tony Hatcher still do the spoilers? I haven't got one of his but I have a spoiler on one car which is spot on for fitment and is in with the flow of the Imps lines under the bumper. It also seems to look right, not to big. It comes from the Dolomite and all you have to do is hacksaw cut it in the middle and remove the same amount from both halves so that it fits neatly onto the front valance. Then cover the join with tape or glue it.
Aesthetically it suits the car and best of all, it works, reducing the effects of sidewinds.

Tony does a very nice spoiler. He fitted one to my Stiletto. I don't think he has as much to do with Imps as he used to though.

Hi Colin,
Hmmm I believe that Tony still does do them...
I take it that the spoiler you mean is the same as those fitted to the Cashmore's Stilettos. Do they really work, as I thought the design was more for looks than function.
The other reason why I wanted the other type, is that the car already has Group 2 arches, and it would kinda suit it...

Gee it must be great living in the UK with wrecking yards full of Dolomites to pinch spoilers off. You would cut your fingers off removing the strips of tin on the Jap stuff, here. It is as thin as razor blades.

Darcy,
The front spoiler on the Dolomites are some kind of nylon/plastic material which are hollow. Really nice bits of kit. I've never tried but maybe the dealers could help. Who owns British Leyland now?

Tim,
Yeah they do work. I haven't seen the Cashmore Stiletto but I think Graham is starting to get his ideas on upgrades using available hardware to work, certainly his front rad using heater hoses and the 930 waterpump thing.
I've had dealings with Tony Hatcher and except for running behind schedule (who doesn't?), he built an engine for me that was spot on after I sorted out the running-in gremlins.

Hi all,
Time to stick my oar in..
Any old spoiler will do in terms of its aerodynamic effect. basically a front spoiler changes the balance of positive and negative air at the front of the car. with a spoiler the higher pressure area is above the bonnet rather than under the front wheels.
With front spoilers, I reckon that looks are everything since they will all do the same job.
The only reason I haven't bought one yet is that I am not sure what I will get when I buy one. Does anyone know what the one sold by Malcolm Anderson looks like. I basically want one that looks like the one on the metallic blue stiletto on Frankas page. I definitely don't want one that looks like those fitted to the orange and yellow stilettos on the same page. Does anyone know which is which?
I want to buy one this month, so I will tell you what it looks like when I do.

Hi Dave,
No idea what the Anderson front spoiler looks like..... expensive probably :-)
The blue Stiletto (owned by Peter Pescud) sports the Hartwell type spoiler, the one I was after. I believe that Tony Hatcher still sells this type. It was endorsed by Martin Morgan-Jones (Imp club editor/commitee person etc) once upon a time...
The orange & yellow Stilettos don't have spoilers. The orange one was owned by a friend of mine from Dorset, and used to have the Hartwell one, but it got broken. Then he sold the car... remember the Orange Torpedo in my garage in Dorset, that was the car's twin sister.
I don't agree that any old spoiler will work. I had a ghastly thing on the purple stiletto that I was given that destroyed it's looks, but did nothing for sideways stability. I think Ripspeed used to do them, they were black ABS plastic with two little vents at the bottom.
I kicked it off the front of the car and stamped on it in the end. I was total pooh :-)
