To all you expert competition engine builders out there,

I had a problem whilst building my 1120 motor, originally the engine was to be built using a Chessman angled head, which had been extensively skimmed, I assembled the head etc. but unfortunately the head was cracked and has been sent for repair, so on goes another race head, but when it came to fitting the timing chain it was tensioned akin to piano wire, although I managed to get it on I'm not happy, does anyone know the solution, as when you add a link to the chain you have to effectively fit two, which make the chain very slack,
any idea's ?

It is possible to buy a half link.

Unusual ! before you doing anything it might be an idea to count the number of links in the chain and compare it with a standard chain.
Only other idea I have is to skim the cam carrier and use thinner tappet shims or skim the vale tops down by the permissable amount.

You need a chain with an extra 1/2 link. That is what is in my engine it was supplied by Hartwell. I don't know where you can get one now.

Reynolds chains should be able to supply links without any problems.

give Vince Frost at Merln Motors a call (01352 720280)
he has lots of pucker Reynolds chain, just tell him the number of links (number you have +1)

What an earth is all this talk of 1/2 links!!!!!
you can not have 1/2 a link

Well, it could be said that you can't really have one link - normal links must always come in twos. A 'half-link' is the hermaphrodite version, of which a single link can take the place of a normal pair.
