The Imp Club

1983

National Imp Day

In the year 1983 of about 275 members, it was decided that the club's first mass-meeting should be held where it was seen. To make potential members aware of the club, a car show was chosen as the venue: The Knebworth Classic Car Spectacular on Sunday 10th July. The sponsor of the show, Thoroughbred and Classic Car Magazine was notified and the club as a whole was entered.

The theme for the club's display at the event was 'Twenty Years of Imps', as it was for all the shows that the club attended that year.

Simon Clemens of the Croydon AC made display stands, posts, etc.

53 Imps turned up, (about 1/6th of membership). The Imp Club was one of the best represented clubs at Knebworth that year. Some members traveled 400 miles. There were Chamois, Sunbeam Imp Sports, Stilettos, Huskies, Rally Imps and of course Hillman Imps.

Press attention came from BBC Norwich and Thoroughbred and Classic Car magazine.

It was a very hot day.
