To reduce the amount of restorable Imps being scrapped, cars for less than £50 can be advertised for free. Spares ads are also free if the total value of items is less than £50.
If you have any FREE odds and ends (or cars for that matter!), you can advertise in the 'Paper Imp Scrapyard' free of charge.
Imps can be of the following marques: Hillman, Singer, Sunbeam or Commer.
(see your Registration Document if in doubt)
Basic Imp, Imp Deluxe, Imp Super, Californian, Caledonian, Rally Imp, Husky, Chamois, Chamois Coupe, Chamois Sport, Rally Chamois, Imp Sport, Sport, Stiletto or Van.
Mention the colour of the bodywork and interior.
It is a good idea to include the engine capacity in the ad. Most Imps were sold with the standard 875cc unit but many cars have subsequently been fitted with 930, 998 or 1,040cc engines for increased performance. Include the year of registration, the mileage (if known) and whether the car is taxed and/or MoT'd (MoT'd cars sell far quicker).
Condition is of course subjective but the following are useful descriptions: 'Restoration project' (rusty/not working but mostly complete), 'fair' (complete, working or recently working), 'good' (MoT'd reliable transport), 'very good' (MoT'd with excellent mechanics and rust-free bodywork). Cars described as 'concours' should of course be virtually as-new or immaculate prize-winning show cars.
As for price, one man's 'immaculate' is another's 'restoration project'. Consult the classic car magazines for so-called price guides if you must, but it must be remembered these are only rough guides. And no-one, even the most knowledgeable Imp guru, should be asked to give a valuation over the 'phone. Do try to state a price, if oniy to avoid the word 'offers', an instant turn-off.
