A: condition 1 to 2+: excellent all-round condition, but not necessarily concours winners
B: condition 2 to 3+: sound and can be used immediately, but might benefit from some cosmetic attention (work and/or original parts would make it condition 1)
C: condition 3 to 4+: complete and running, but will require major restorative work
ratings 4 and 5: 'restoration projects'

Continental Imps may fetch much higher prices. Imps are rare and well liked. One example: A particular Sunbeam Californian in Holland that is in concours condition, and has won the concours d'elegance of Valkenswaard more than once was officially valued (for insurance) at 12,000 Dutch guilders.

Present prices in the Netherlands

One of the sources for these prices is De Onschatbare Klassieker (The Unestimatable Classic Car), a yearly renewed handbook. The thing is, of course, that the value of anything is open for discussion.

Category A:: drivable, complete but unrestored
Category B:: in reasonable condition, with MoT
Category C:: in good condition, but not concours

How to arrive at a price

Factors that influence a car's asking price (apart from its overal condition), include:

does it have an auto box
is it left- or right-hand drive, or converted from one to the other
the registration number (does it have an original plate)
paperwork
- a manual
- original logbook
- old MoTs
- a current v5
- a current MoT test certificate
- a full and unbroken service history

Winter 1967/68 the British Pound devaluated and Sunbeam prices on the continent accordingly dropped. By then the names Hillman and Singer were no longer used in the Benelux, and only the name Sunbeam was kept. This was possible in countries where the separate marques used the same dealer network. They were imported into the Benelux by Chrysler in 1970, in 1971 by Simca.

Classic & Sports Car: Price Guide
